6 TIPS TO PREPARE YOU FOR A CORPORATE VIDEO INTERVIEW
As a business owner or employee; at some point, you might have to sit in front of a camera and contribute in your organization’s video.
For many business owners or company representatives, sitting in front of a professional camera setup like Sony FS7ii or similar cameras and sharing their thoughts on a subject matter can be nerve-racking. This is understandable because, they are not used to sitting in front of a camera. Knowing that everything is being recorded, makes them even more conscious about appearance or saying the wrong things.
As a video production company in Lagos, Nigeria, we have witnessed interviewees develop a cold feet during a video interview. Here are some tips to help you better prepare for your next corporate video interview:
- Be prepared: It is important to prepare ahead. Research to have a proper understanding of the subject matter. Also practicing potential questions that might be asked, taking down a few pointers and getting acquainted with the subject matter will boosts your confidence during the interview.
- Relax and Be Yourself: Breathe! Try to be as relaxed as possible. It’s probably just you and only 3 to 5 other people in the room. See it as being in a meeting or doing a presentation and give it your best
- Don’t be anxious: Don’t worry too much about saying the wrong things, it can restrict your flow of thought and speech. Although the recording session might last 30-50 minutes; the final video might be edited down to 2-10 minutes and only the good things you’ve said will likely be retained.
- Try not to cram: This goes back to the first point. Always remember the 5Ps. Proper Planning Prevents Poor Performance. Inadequate preparation before your video interview might result in last minute cramming. Things crammed can easily be forgotten, this can easily lead to stuttering and lack of confidence. It’s important that you at least have an idea of the subject matter. Even if you forget what you initially prepared, you’ll still be able to say something meaningful.
- Feel free to request a retake: If you are not confident or comfortable about some things you have said, ask the crew for a retake. The camera crew should be able to oblige and record your interview over again.
- Work With Professional crew: Working with a professional crew will make a huge difference in the output of your video. Their role is not only to capture what you have to say but, capture the session in a way that promotes the image you’re trying to portray or the objectives you’re trying to push. Working with a professional team will greatly influence your performance.
